Houston Is A Top 10 City For Young Adults

August 2, 2010 Leave a comment

Houston has made Kiplinger.com’s list as one of the Top 10 Great Cities for Young Adults.

The cities were selected based on youth-friendly factors such as large percentages of people under 35 years old, cost of living and rental costs, culture, nightlife and the time spent in traffic.

According to the list: “Houston offers great job prospects and exciting big-city amenities at a price so low, even struggling grads can afford it.”

The city was also chosen because of its diversity, as more than 1 million of Houston’s inhabitants were born outside of the U.S. Houston’s diverse economy, rents below the national average, one of the country’s best restaurant scenes, vibrant nightlife and its proximity to Gulf Coast beaches were also listed as pros for young people living in the city.

See Houston is not ONLY about heat and traffic.
Ha, take that.

July 28, 2010 2 comments

We have been having a little discussion about customer service becoming irrelevant in the eye’s of most consumers in today’s market place and want to know what you think.

In today’s market and just as a consumer in general, what is the most important factor to you when selecting a company to do business with?   Will you pay a little more for a service or product knowing you get great customer service?  Is the bottom line lowest price the end all be all and the most influential factor in you decision?

Place you vote! Also we would love to hear your opinions on the subject, so leave a comment and lets discuss.

United States Flag Day

June 14, 2010 Leave a comment

Happy Flag Day!  Fly your USA flags proudly.

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

11 Real World Life Rules Kids Won’t Learn In School From Bill Gates

May 21, 2010 Leave a comment

It was said Bill Gates gave a speech with these 11 rules to a High School.  Turns out that was unfounded and not true.

That being said, these are still some GREAT real world truths every high school or college kid entering into the real world should know as truth.

Rule 1:  Life is not fair – get used to it!

Rule 2:  The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3:  You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4:  If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5:  Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6:  If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault; so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7:  Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8:  Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9:  Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you “FIND YOURSELF”. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10:  Television and video games are NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11:  Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.
